Other French authors

I have also translated books by Lytta Basset, Marie Balmary, and a work by a man who was a POW in Dachau, Bernard Py.

Lytta Basset is an important and prolific writer/theologian; I don’t know where to begin describing her work, which I am currently (2026) working on consistently. I will say that her outlook fits in well with Marie Balmary, a psychoanalyst who looks, particularly, at Genesis going rather deeply into what from my perspective are interpretations that differ substantially from standard anglophone evangelical fare. I will try to provide summaries of their various works. One of Basset’s books has been published in English – Holy Anger.

Bernard Py’s remarkable account tells how as a very young man, 19 or 20, he met God under the most stressful of circumstances.

Simone Pacot frequently references Adolphe Gesché, as does Basset. I am also working on something of his, a very estimable theologian. There is a series of 7 books with the general title Dieu pour penser; I am working on vol VI, Le Christ. I don’t claim to have academic credentials that make me worth listening to; I merely comment that this is the best Christology I have encountered. Then there is Croire by Bernard Sesboüé, a sort of general apology for the faith from a Roman Catholic background; like Gesché, I think it’s outstanding.

It remains to be seen what can be done about making all this work I’m doing available.

I hope to publish something on this website or elsewhere which will open the door to looking at these excellent sources that apparently have very little reach into the English speaking world.
